Sorry about the late post, we were a bit shorthanded last night. On to the highlights!
They don’t ask how, they just ask how many. David Backes opened the scoring with a weird goal as the first period came to an end. 1-0 Bruins.
A wacky series of deflections leads to a point shot ending up in the back of the net. The goal ended up being credited to Tyler Bertuzzi. 1-1 tie.
Things got chippy after that goal. Luke Witkowski leveled David Krejci with an open-ice hit…
…which led to Joakim Nordstrom paying a visit to Mr. Witkowski.
And then…CHAOS. Brad Marchand took a swipe at Jimmy Howard. He was jumped from behind. Full scrum ensues. The refs, hating fun, won’t let Tuukka Rask and Howard fight.
The lead-up to the scrum:
Shortly after the scrums, Dylan Larkin scores on the PP to make it 2-1 Detroit.
Ryan Donato gets his second in as many games (though the shootout one technically doesn’t count as a goal, I guess), tying it at 2-2.
The Bruins upped the pressure on Detroit after the tying goal and had a number of chances, but it ended up being a wacky tip from Frans Nielsen that ends up in the back of the net. 3-2 Detroit.
Detroit would add an empty-netter to seal the deal, making it a final score of 4-2 Detroit.
The win was the Wings’ first regular season W in Boston in five years.
The Bruins are back at it Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers.
